Oh, boy... I'll be making several visits to this posting I can see...
Ever seen William S. Burroughs "Towers Open Fire"??
It's on YouTube as well. Look for it. Very wierd, but right up my alley.

Thanks for the links, when I have time I'll watch and comment more.

wow, that site is a trip
it's been pointed out to me by AgentA that perhaps I could have just created a youtube channel. which makes sense now that it's not the wee hours of the morning. but then I found the Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Herbie Hancock, Mahavishnu ( this one is killer -> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MtSIEkPqVgk&mode=related&search= ) and if that not enough, then Misha walks in and says, "Do they have any Hendrix?" omg.

after seeing MO jamming live - I'll have to put some on!
now playing... Mahavishnu Orchestra
Those of you who have no idea who/what Mahavishnu Orchestra is... and you like jamming... and you like improvisation... and you like jazz fusion at all... then you must buy a few Mahavishnu CDs and dive in.
I walked into a head shop back in high school, and they had Mahavishnu playing on the stereo - my friend Todd and I both looked at each other and commented how the song was seriously jamming... almost 10 minutes later... the song finally ends and I walk up to the guy at the counter and asked him who the band was. Ten minutes later, Todd and I were at Tower Records San Jose and we each bought our first Mahavishnu tapes.

yeah, that particular line-up of MO was the apex of hot. I keep hoping somebody will step up to it again, but I'm not sure that's even possible.

Michael - I need to turn you onto one of my favorite bands... they're local to San Diego, and I can honestly say, they are one of the greatest bands I've known. Unfortunately, they (mainly the singer/guitarist/songwriter) are 500% against the 'system' - against record contracts - against managers, etc. Due to this, they're now the greatest band people never new. Here's how I usually describe them...
* Mahavishnu Orchestra - the jamming, quick changes, and improvisation * Led Zeppelin - the intensity and power * Hendrix - passion and the blues * Rush - dynamics, musical interludes, drums
And yes... the band is a 'power trio' - just 3 guys.
They're called "SuperUnloader" - and I still see them play. I've been going to their shows since 1990 I believe. They have some tracks online, but only on MySpace. About once a year I point out to them that I run ArtistServer and invite them to the site, but they've never given it a shot.

If you'd like to hear them, I can set you up w/ a track or two. They do have CDs for sale too. That second link has their albums listed - click on them and you'll see they have previews. Oh - and the "Live and Unfashionable" album has a horn section playing with them that sounds excellent!

hey thx Gideon I found the experience of seeing the MO vids both exhilerating and depressing cuz I thought; "Wow, where did that whole thing go?". so it'd be nice to have my faith restored. hard to compete though - at one point my kids turned me on to Coroner - and I still dig 'em - the early stuff and it was so hard fast & tight that I really had a hard time believing it was only three guys. but... amazing as it was, it wernt no MO.
I'm streaming Superunloader off of myspace now and yep, they are great. lots of interesting influences and changes. tight but fluid. solid controlled energy. well thought out and plenty of power. I even like the vocals (potentially weakest link of any band). I can see why you could get glued on these guys pretty easily. I think lots of people could. thx
