That is Awesome! Perfect!
At a single glance, one can see:
"We host more than 9,000 songs by more than 7,000 independent artists and bands. "
At once, once can see the scope and breadth of the vast community here, and it's promise,
and then the featured artists wheel is prominent and inviting and a great spotlight, for a
place to start exploring the site, and a great reason to upgrade accounts too.
The site looks really clean and balanced and tells one everything one needs to know,
with featured artist teasers, and ongoing visual slide show, simplified genre list and
a beginners menu prominently displaying sections people can start browsing in.
I -really- like it Gideon.
Where's that beverage icon...

I have just noticed what may be an issue...
When I go to the front page, and click on the music player to hear the new
uploads, it tries to operate but does nothing. In order to get it to play, I had
to stop the flash promo and the flash photo album display had to be paused
by it's tiny pause button, and still the songs would not play, unless I clicked
a song farther down in the list, and then manually moved the snail marker on
the player ahead in the song, and then music finally started to play.
I don't know if it's the cludgeony player, which never really seems to work right,
or if it's the other flash windows interfering with it, but it seems there is an issue
with getting the flash player to work on the homepage.
Is anyone else experiencing the same flash behavior?
A different free flash stream player is available at Wavestreaming.com, in different
skins. I don't know if that is the kind needed here, or if it is suitable.

I'll run some tests, I think I know what is causing it. The issue is the 1st song not playing unless you play another song first.
I'll also take a look at your suggested flash player.

ok - issue w/ 1st song not playing is fixed.
It was caused by a script I added. I didn't want the player to autostart, but if you loaded a playlist, I wanted the player to autostart after loading. So now you have to click on play after loading a playlist from the featured artists block.

Gideon, just a question - and not a massively important one, but perhaps of some interest anyway - does the flash player count towards the charts? ie does a play there get noted as a stream?
Drug use for children has for many an education and with obvious alarm to both parents on the increase almost yearly.

Second Thought - yes, the plays from the home page flash player count and are subjected to the same rules for tracking that other plays do.

It was a bit of dynamic content which allowed the artists to access high traffic flow,
while allowing visitors to the site to see, at a glance, what the artists are up to and
what is happening behind the scenes. I think the blogs have been made irrelevant
here now that they are ostensibly buried behind the artists pages. They were a very
good promotional feature.
On the other hand, I like to go to the home page, and then click on the tiny little full-
screen mode button on the image displayer, and just sit back and look at all the images
the artists are uploading... It's a great show, in full screen mode!

It might work that I just set up a link to the forum RSS feed for "edge" of my RockMelt browser but I'm looking for a way to filter the content down to just the "new". Silly, now that I think about it, once I call up the feed it should update with only the latest. Will let you know how that works out.

The frequency of posting, as well as the number of members posting to their blogs has been quite low for the last year. I had removed them from the homepage since it no longer seemed to be of an interest to the site's members. I can certainly add it back to the bottom of the homepage. It should show up again in the next week.

Yes, all activity with your mp3 files is tracked - unless, it is the same IP doing the same action within a 24hr period, or if you are signed in and you interact with your mp3s.

I'm now using the RSS feed from the top forum page and that works well enough (hmmm though I wonder if that was from the Lounge 'conversation', hard to tell looking at the url with all the number hash for the ID)

that is the conference ID - its a UUID, which some app developers use instead of sequential ID numbering. For this forum, the conferences are the forum areas - like The Lounge, Tech Talk, etc. To get these RSS links, click on the forums home page: http://forums.artistserver.com/index.cfm - then click into the forum you want an RSS link for - and you'll see it at the top of the page - right side.

Awesome!
I think it is a valuable feature for the artists to be able to make highly visible announcements
and to express and show where there are active artists within the site and new projects and
things. Hopefully that valuable function would not be abused by anyone, nor neglected.
