Do you have kids? Can I ask you a question?

I know not all of you are parents, but I wanted to just put this out there...
It has been brought to my attention lately that once I became a Mom, I 'changed'. At first I wasn't sure how to take that comment, but once I digested it, I realized that not only was it glaringly true, it was also (IMO) a compliment.
Since then I have found myself thinking about it a lot. I have changed. I have completely different priorities, completely overwhelming responsibilities, and an inner sense of peace and love that I never before could have guessed even existed. I don't get much sleep, don't have as much free time or 'fun' as I used to, I have absolutely no money, but I've never smiled and laughed so much in my life. I also notice that I drive slower, don't let the 'little things' get to me as much, and have never loved my husband more.
However.......
I also think I would lose my f*cking mind if I did not have my two-day-a-week job to 'escape' to. The peace and quiet, the chance to focus on something other than a diaper or mashed sweet potatoes...it's essencial to my sanity. I also find that when I am at work w/out the baby I tend to drive faster, play the stereo WAY TOO LOUD and wear my sunglasses, as if this combination somehow magically converts my 'Mommy-mobile' into a hot-rod. I've also recently learned to love margaritas...
So I was wondering, any of you other breeders out there, how did you change, if at all, after you became a parent? Positive and negative...I'm just curious.

I notice that "inner sense of peace and love" in the mornings, when I greet my dogs

You're right about that 'inner peace' and it's true that our mornings are much more meaningful now...especially on the weekends when we can do the 'family snuggle thing' when Gid wakes up. It really is magical!

Enjoy the "inner peace" while lasts. Once the teen years hit that inner peace turns to inner anxiety....
Now my oldest (he's 24) has a motorcycle and I cringe every time I watch him ride off....
My second oldests' choice in women is suspect and the other two have to be regularly seperated to keep them from beating each other up...
Still.... I cannot deny I love the job and wouldn't trade it for the world. Especially when those boys do something unexpected and make me feel all warm and fuzzy inside...

Dear Lord!
Maybe you could have eased me into the impending reality of parenthood. Damn... I thought poopie diapers were bad!
However, I know we have nothing to worry about with Gid, because he will always be perfectly behaved, get straight A's in school, never drive anything other than a safe, stable, hybrid (w/plenty of air-bags), will have the peace and wisdom of the Dali Lama and will only date girls that I choose for him.
RIGHT?!
