Let's see...I'm a California (San Diego) native...and I've driven around a bit... so...

California: Golden, rich, and close to all you'd want to be close to.
Arizona: Dry, silent, and magical in it's intense diversity.
Nevada: Weird.
Utah: Mother Nature rules but Human Nature seems stunted.
Colorado: AMAZINGLY WILD AND GORGEOUS!
Hawaii: Green; everything, everywhere...green.

Great question! Cool

connecticut: insurance capital of the world. boring. born and brought up there.
massachusetts: pretty, wealthy rural, boston is good. cape cod is great.
new hampshire: flannel and tax free booze
vermont: huge lakes that freeze in the winter
maine: so much wilderness which I'd love to explore more
new york: love the upstate, the catskills, and the city ain't so bad either
pennsylvania: philly has a bell, but pittsburgh's got the character and the edge
new jersey: smells funny. seriously.
delaware: dela'where? just passin' through.
maryland: have had fun times in and managed to not get shot in baltimore. went to a waterfowl festival in easton once. saw dogs swimming after decoys. ate funnel cakes.
washington, dc: hot polish sausages while watching tourists. the neighborhoods are where it's at in that city though.
west virginia: only been hiking/camping there. nice country.
virginia: I like it here. farms and food and libertarians.
north carolina: series of mid-size college towns. good shows.
south carolina: I forget.
georgia: atlanta is f-u-n! athens is a neat town too.
florida: I generally dislike the sprawling areas, but have had blasts in sarasota and miami.
tennessee: visited elvis, got yelled at by the campgrounds manager.
kentucky: once played a show there and nobody came. at all. except mr. spoons.
ohio: went to a beautiful wedding at friends' strawbale homestead. nice people came to the hoedown.
indiana: comes after illinois when heading home.
illinois: roam chicago on foot, care of helpful students' directions and the L
iowa: where I first saw ostrich meat sticks
missouri: lush, dense, humid, mosquito
arkansas: we just drove as fast as we could without getting pulled over, though hampered by a torrential downpour while listening to a strange baptist role playing broadcast.
texas: only been across the panhandle. slept in Armarillo. it got windy and I was afraid of tornadoes.
new mexico: beautiful. must spend more time there. they put jalapenos on their pizzas.
kansas: it was hot. very hot.
nebraska: it was hot. we got pulled over, but the cop couldn't get a radar fix on us 'cause we were weaving through traffic. we got a warning because it was so hot.
colorado: boulder is worth living in. mountains too. huge.
wyoming: the wild west. got freaked out in Bar Nunn and had to leave. Buffalo was not much better. but we made it to Yellowstone. and thought we'd arrived in heaven.
montana: also a beautiful place. though we were just heading to Alberta.
utah: don't you even think that you're drinking real beer. you're not. so bring it in with you. go to Moab. one of my favorite places in the U.S.
arizona: arid and lovely. excellent mexican food. some of the best. crazy border towns.
california: uber alles. the best state, per capita.
nevada: purgatory.
oregon: when coastal northern california just isn't beautiful enough...
washington (state): seattle is fun to set out by on foot. when there I'm always drawn north to Vancouver.

I haven't been to: louisiana, alabama, mississippi, michigan, wisconsin, minnesota, or the dakotas. but I really want to visit those central northern states.

okay, my lunch break is over!
