New (((stereofect))) - "In Saturn's Shadow"
Created on: 11/25/06 06:34 AM Replies: 22

Some new deep space ambience for ya... Very Happy

In Saturn's Shadow is a five part journey inspired by recent Cassini pictures of Saturn.

Quote:
With giant Saturn hanging in the blackness and sheltering Cassini from the sun's blinding glare, the spacecraft viewed the rings as never before, revealing previously unknown faint rings and even glimpsing its home world. This marvelous panoramic view was created by combining a total of 165 images taken by the Cassini wide-angle camera over nearly three hours on Sept. 15, 2006. The full mosaic consists of three rows of nine wide-angle camera footprints; only a portion of the full mosaic is shown here. Color in the view was created by digitally compositing ultraviolet, infrared and clear filter images and was then adjusted to resemble natural color. The mosaic images were acquired as the spacecraft drifted in the darkness of Saturn's shadow for about 12 hours, allowing a multitude of unique observations of the microscopic particles that compose Saturn's faint rings.

Ahh, time for electro lullaby sleepyland.

What frame of mind were you in when you made these? Drunk, high, sober?

Very good sound quality.

Takes me back to the days of tangerine dream.

pretty dreamy/spacey. the echoy/verb might be a bit much for some folks, but it's ok by me. I'm already taking another pass at it. in fact, I finaly dl'd winamp just so I could stream them as a series (since wmp always dies at the end of each track I stream off the net).

seems like it could work as a soundtrack. ever thought about dropping something on NASA like Jansen/Barbieri did with Other Worlds in a Small Room for JVC?

listen to this in the car at night, do ya? Cool

(btw - the link in your thread up there doesn't work)

I had a track used in a 29min educational film from NASA about "Solar Eclipses and the Mysteries of the Corona" a couple years ago.

Lovely textures Mr Stereofect.

Gave these a second listen tonight.

Pretty bizarre and scary at times.

The only negative I found is the volume. It had me reaching for the volume knob ever few minutes due to extremely loud sections.

Other than that the mood that these pieces set is perfect for soul journeying.

Yeah... I'm notoriously bad for creating the 'leaning back from the speakers' effect that happens when I generate resonances that are a tad harsh. I blame it on a lack of compression (which I don't use for some reason).

Sorry 'bout that.

I just set the equalizer to the (((stereofect))) preset and dream away. We're streaming your whole page (YAY! BROADBAND!!) The new stuff is awesome, as I commented, reminiscent of John Serrie at his best; Faith said, It's wonderful! If I didn't know it wasn't us I'd think it was us! lol

We give it five headphones

music... music...music...music...music...

I enjoyed listening to these. That panned tremolo section 'round 2:40 on part 3 did weird stuff to my brain.

Broadband sassin frassin lover... I'm jealous. Anger - grrrrrr!

Hey, Kylo. I made the jump to DSL back in June and it changed my life. I do believe, yes, oh yes... I do believe in the power of DSL.

I liked what I heard in Part 1 and now I just need to schedule time to listen to the other 4 Cool, right on.
not an Obliminal thought in his head

I just downloaded the whole 5-parts but I will listen tomorrow. I am in a mood for a space trip into the Cassini with (((stereofect))) as captain.

I mostly like the opening part which is the most mysterious ad spacey of all the 5 parts... I believe. On the next 4 parts, I felt that you could have evolved the with as many ideas and elements as the 1st. But instead, as time passes, you subtract elements... coming to be quite minimal. I have to check all the piece a lot of times of course.

After Saturn's Shadow I listened to Brain Drain as well, with which, I believe you found yourself more refreshed. While in Saturn's Shadow I heard some older ideas in it.

I'll burn it on cdr and will listen when I will fall to bed... I will see then Smile

I'll have a listen to it soon....(have to take small holiday for it)

OK... coupla things...

Brain Drain was done on the fly with Reason 2.0 and ended up being one of those "happy accidents" that worked. I just played random notes on the Oxygen8 while changing params in Malstrom. I recorded it all into CoolEdit96 at the same time.

In Saturn's Shadow was planned (more or less) and contains "older ideas" mainly because it consists of a 16 step sequence loaded and looped in a Yamaha QX5 which then drives a Yamaha TX7, Korg X5D, Yamaha TG33 and a Juno-106. The seqeunce runs on its own while I flip through patches and move sliders and knobs at will while the output is fed through a Boss RPH-10, Boss RSD-10 and ART FXR (in that order) and then into CoolEdit96.

I usally record for like an hour or so and then delete the stuff I don't like and save the rest. No post production is done to resulting WAV file. What you hear is what you get.

So yea... nothing special. No secrets here. Just simple stuff for those that like things that way.
