A few updates to Artist sites

I made a few updates to the artist sites here on ArtistServer. Take a look at the list below. You finally get an embedded mp3 player on your artist home page It seems most sites do it this way instead of having people use their own mp3 player. Personally, I like to use my own player, that way I can still stream as I browse or leave the site.
- display song links on artist's song pages
- fixed link color in tag cloud on artist blog page when using customer colors
- fixed invalid xHTML on artist pages: artist home, chart, blog, photos, reviews, friends, contact
- added flash mp3 player to artist's homepage, shows up after 2 songs have been uploaded
- moved the paging and sorting options to display next to the mp3 player
- moved the tip jar next to the mp3 player, removed opacity so it stands out more - tip jar only displays if you turn it on in the MyAccount area (set your paypal address under 'Edit Profile' and turn it on under 'Settings').
Enjoy!

As I'm sure you are fully aware I'm not big on customisation, but if I could be so bold as to suggest....
added flash mp3 player to artist's homepage, shows up after 2 songs have been uploaded
Can this be changed to a on/off choice for supporting artists. I'm not really liking the way it crowds my page and as such I don't really need it. Or at the very least can it be set so I can place it where I want, if I choose to use it??
moved the paging and sorting options to display next to the mp3 player
I'd like the choice to use or not use if possible?
moved the tip jar next to the mp3 player, removed opacity so it stands out more
Again... an option to put this where I want would be nice (left, right, centre) as it's huge and really sticks out on the black background like I use??
----
Other than that you have outdone yourself yet again, Gideon. Seriously, man... you put so much time and effort into this site. I truely appreciate everything you do. This is THE only place I post my muisc, so it means a great deal to me all the work you put into making this place the best on the web.

Looking good...although I would like to place the player on a diff. spot. (With a bit more space between the artist description and the tracks).

Thank you for appreciating the time and work. It's been tough the last few months, not having the time or energy to work on the site. With full time work now, and previously not getting sleep due to the baby, I was a zombie. But I'm back! The baby now sleeps 6-7hrs through the night now, so things are much better around here. I'm trying to spend 2 nights each week working on fixing things and adding new features, and another night working on promoting the site.
Here are the updates I'll work on to improve the last round of updates...
- option to turn on/off mp3 player
- when the mp3 player is off, I'll display the paging selection where it was previously
- option to place tip jar in left or right column
A Bit Crusher - I'll try the player on the right column to see how it looks and consider an option to place it there. I'm thinking it might be too narrow of a space, so the song titles will be cut off.
Oh - and I haven't forgotten about the issue with bots and spammers filling the mailing list form. I have to redesign that so it becomes a two stage process. Once I am done, it will submit to a page, where the user will have to fill out a "CAPTCHA" (one of those images w/ the text that is squiggly and you have to type in what you see.) This will cut out the bots and the majority of spammers. We already use CAPTCHA on the contact forms, which seems to work very well.

Right on, Gideon...

You can bet that around here we know what zombie mode can be like. Leanne & I were so hooked on it we just couldn't stop after one. But we've been clean & sober of that particular affliction for several years now and life has slowly returned to a somewhat reasonable resemblance to normal. (I write this as Futurama plays in the backgroud to the sound of giggles from the two youngest in the brood)
hehehe... summer vacation rocks..!!

Sounds like a plan to me. I hope it won't be too much work for you.

Remember... change is good... especially from a vending machine.

Keep on keepin' on..

Not sure if it's an IE8 issue or your latest updates, but I went to post a review of Technixia's latest upload and the review box was all screwy (all I get are the stars and a blank text input box) and I had to scroll down to get the flash player out of the way.

it's an issue in general w/ Flash and Internet Explorer when you load objects with a Z order, the floating DIV that loads the comment form doesn't get positioned correctly. Yet another reason why IE is not a good browser. This issue has existed for years, and still no fix.
Thanks for pointing it out. I'll poke around to see what I can do.

ok, new update...
1. the flash issue has been fixed
And you now have more settings on the "Settings" page in the My Account area...
2. Embeded Mp3 Player: you can turn it off, display it on the left, or display it on the right
3. PayPal Tip Jar: you can turn it off, display it on the left, or display it on the right
If you are signed in, just click this link to jump to your : Settings
>>>I hope it won't be too much work for you.
Not too long - the 3 items above took 2hrs to complete, and test.

Hold on... I think it's the colours he's using, 'cause I don't get it with all pages.

yes- the color scheme you set for your page will carry on over to the comments popup. Are you suggesting I not use your color scheme and use a standard/simple color scheme for all uses of the comments popup?

Well... yeah, I suppose. A lot of artist pages are affected by this problem. It's even worse if the artist uses a background image. The background image gets loaded into the box as well. I mean... seeing what I saw in the image example I used earlier is confusing enough for me, imagine what it's like for a first-timer/casual visiter to the site?

thanks for your help in pointing out that issue
off to sleep now
next coding session will probably include the following updates:
* add to Favorites - support for photos * photo comments - needs paging support, so not all comments will display at once * Twitter Widget - adding your twitter feed to your artist homepage, displaying the last 5 tweets
If you have any other issues with the site, let me know. If they won't take long to fix, I'll take care of them next.
