Starting a new concerts thread....

Last Concert: The Mountain Goats
Next Concert: Matmos

The Mountain Goats were great great great live.

The Mountain Goats were my last concert as well, two nights in a row... Was Christine Fellows opener when you saw them? I pretty much adore all her music...

wait: next concert Matmos? I am seeing them next friday... we are completely on the same concert circuit. Are you in Boston, perhaps, Full-Source?

Oh yeah, and the Mountain Goats were definitely wonderful both nights, but they're basically my favorite live act so I'm pretty biased.

Christine Fellows I believe is on tour with them. She opened when I saw them play. charming stuff.

I'm in Boston.

Saw the Canadian hip hop group Swollen Members at The Skydome (now The Roger's Centre) September 9th at an Argos game. They did a three song set during half-time that was piped into the dome's sound system (which is pretty awesome btw) and showed it on the big-assed screen (fondly referred to as the JumboTron) in the opposite endzone.

Good set. Nice agressive hip hop. They really rocked the house. Didn't help the Argos at all, but it did get us pumped up for the second half.

cheers

my last concert was me/of montreal, and before that was Horsefang/Badman/Neptune, which was great.

next up: Melvins, and I can't wait.

re: Matmos - I wish they were playing nearer to us. I'd drive to Philly for it but it's a Tuesday night. I've seen 'em twice though, once in 2000 and once in 2001 (w/Electric Birds and Blectum from Blechdom), both in SF. My first time, it was at the SF MOMA (museum of modern art) and they played in a room with everyone sitting on the floor around them. twas great. show climaxed with Drew inflating a giant black helium balloon (the sounds generated from the tank and the balloon were of course incorporated) to which he secretly tied a tape recorder which looped a "meow" over and over and as he slowly let it rise to the high ceiling, the music became quieter and quieter until it was silent and except for the "meow" and everyone was just looking up to the ceiling with their mouths open. the second time was at Bottom of the Hill rock club and it climaxed with some friends of theirs running through the crowd handing everyone these plastic clacker noise maker thingies which everyone started shaking sixteenth notes to this crazy beat and the noisemakers were so loud they began to sound like a sea of crickets.

you lucky ducks! wonder what they'll do this time.. have fun!!

Wait, you opened for Of Montreal, John? I demand elaboration on this.

in due time...

it was a lot of fun. good (surprised!) crowd. nice guys. I'm getting a couple of video clips together from the set, I hope to have them online by tomorrow. I'll start a thread when I post 'em and type a little story Smile

Last Concert: The Decemberists
Next Concert: The Album Leaf

Also the Matmos show I went to was indeed awesome. At one point they duct-taped a microphone to an electric razor and shaved a guy's head on stage. The last half of the evening they just improved which was brilliant.
