Short URLs, for SMS, Email and Online Status

A URL Shortener is a web site/service where you can input a very long link/URL and it will provide you with a shorter link/URL, making it easier for you to send the link via email, or post it to Twitter.com, or Facebook, etc.
One of the most famous URL shortening sites is TinyURL.com, but there are now dozens of these sites, like bit.ly and is.gd.
ArtistServer now provides an auto URL shortening service to artist pages, song pages, song stream URLs, and song download URLs. The service will soon have an upgrade to include photos and blog posts. And what is the url? http://aurl.in
Here is an example of a set of URLs that exist on ArtistServer, then below this, is the short URLs for the same set of links:

When should you use Short URLs?
- when sending in a text message
- when emailing to a mobile phone
- when posting to twitter.com or similar
- when posting in a 'my status' update, like on Facebook or Twitter
- for songs - on fliers, or any case where you 'print' the URL
- when using chat or instant messaging
- in emails out to your mailing list
How do you get your Short URLs?
I'll integrate these links as option on the site soon. Right now, you can generate these links to your own songs using the "Get Links" tool, under "Music" in the "My Account" area. If you are signed in, this link should take you there.

The Short URL feature has been expanded to include the blog postings, photos and music projects. In each case, we are using a letter code for the type of link, then the id of the item. I'll make these links available with the actual items on the site so the short URLs are accessible when you need them.
- a = artist - example: http://aurl.in/a9
- d = song download - example: http://aurl.in/d1
- s = song stream - example: http://aurl.in/s1
- w = song page - example: http://aurl.in/w1
- b = blog - example: http://aurl.in/b2183
