Early Morning in Perth County...

Took this shot yesterday morning (at about 07:30EST) on my way home from work. It's the view I get out the passenger side window whilst I drive past. We're looking sorta North-Westish. The sun-rise this time of year is especially nice. The cool mornings, clear sky, bright sun, fog (yes, that's fog not an out-of-focus shot) all make for some nice views. This one is my favorite. Also... you can't see 'im, but a Great Blue Heron visits this pond every morning for his breakfast. He hides out behind the cedars in the bottom left of the shot.
Anywho...
Enjoy this lil' piece of Ontario!!

Great shot! Very peaceful
Feel free to use the 'photos' tool to upload your photos on ArtistServer
It provides some nice features - like taking the original image and creating multiple sizes, listing the photo in the photos section, allowing for photo comments, etc.
When you sign in - and click to enter the MyAccount area, you should see a button for uploading photos, and there should be an option in the menu on the MyAccount page.

You'd love it!!
Think you could handle our winters!?
Tell ya what. Move to Canada and I'll buy you your first toque. (Black... of course)
More pix from the same trip.
Just outside of Waterloo... looking North.

Foggy Landscape....

Corn blur....

The view from the driver's side across from the duck pond...

A little further up the road. Shakespeare Pond....

As some folks on the board know, I've been fantasizing about moving to Canada for years. Is that were we are all going to relocat to? Should we set up a compound?
Seriously...how could does it get? Are there enough jackets in the world to keep a San Diegan girl warm? The scenery reminds me of the years I lived in Julian. I managed a 5000' elevation and 6' of snow during the winter. Could I handle Canada?
I really liked the picture of the sun coming through a tree (oak?), I'm just sorry the phone lines cut across the tree tops. Truly lovely!

Now that the cold question's aside-- How many... Mosquitoes do you think live around there?
Great looking country though by far!

Funny... all this tawk 'bout movin' to the great white north reminds me of the 'mericans we met during our trip to Niagara falls. The common comment from the 'merican crowd was "where are the police? Don't you folks have any police?" "we haven't seen one cop since landing on this side of the border". "what about security??".......

Yup... the whole terrorism/homeland security thing is pretty much moot up here.

There used to be a commune north of the city called the Perth County Conspiracy. Had quite the reputation for its... umm... quality herbal smoke.
Maybe we could start it up again??

It gets pretty durn cold. Down right frickin' cold, to be exact!!
We're tawkin' -15 to -25 celcius in Jan & Feb (that's were the toque becomes more than a fashion statement). Factor in the wind-chill and ya gets temps in the minus 30-35 range.
Brrrrr.....
This past weekend it went down to 3C overnight.

The route I take to work in the summer months is pretty unpassable during the winter. I have to use an alternate route during the winter. Which I don't like doing 'cause the traffic volumes are heavier on the other route and the drivers tend to be more aggressive and risk takers than on the more laid-back route I normally take.

Yeah... I hear ya. Can't do much about the hydro lines, but I just pretend they aren't there and enjoy the view as it is.

Oh... and the mosquito thing ain't so bad here in Ontario. It's much worse west of the province. Manitoba and Saskatchewan have it the worst. Something like 1700+ people infected with West Nile Virus. That's waaaaay more than Ontario.

Oh... and on the Holland thing.....
Perth County has a huge population of Dutch. They sell their farms over there for seemingly millions and then move to Canada and buy up the farmland here for cheap. Turn the farms into huge hog operations. The Dutch have made Perth County the hog capital of Canada. No kindin', man. There are more Dutch per capita in Perth County than anywhere else in the country. Lots of Dutch soldiers and airmen got themselves stationed and trained here during WWII. Perth County has a awesome, long standing relationship with Holland.

Dutch, eh?
That's definitely with me.

My roots are connected to Scotland and Leanne's are Irish.
But our families haven't lived in either of those places for 170 years. Our roots are pretty deep in Ontario. Our families were among the original settlers following the War of 1812. And both our families, including us, are pretty much living where we orginally settled six generations ago. Our families discovered heaven 170 years ago and have never left. As the song says; "Our home and native land". We love this place.
