How did you meet your partner?
Created on: 12/04/08 10:57 AM Replies: 17

I very well may have asked this (or a similar) question in the past, but today I am feeling nostalgic, romantic and nosey. Wink

It was ten years ago today, on a cold and rainy Friday night in Pacific Beach, that I walked past Gideon and my life changed forever. I often wonder what my life might be like now if I had walked down a different street, if he had not talked to me, asked for my number, etc...

After a little liquid courage he asked me out and the following date was such a hit that we both agreed that we were just 'together' from that point on. Thank goodness I like geeky conversations about the internet and such! Thank goodness he wasn't thrown off by my skittish post-divorce behavior! Very Happy

And the rest, as they say, is history. One house, two dogs, and an upcoming baby later...he we are!

So, what about the rest of you? How did you meet? How long ago did you fall for each other? What were your circumstances?

Again, I'm just being nosey...it beats working. Razz

I met Lizzie when I was sitting in my front room working on tunes.

My flatmate at the time - Rebecca was in her 2nd year at the London School of Fashion and her friend needed to come over and use my computer to do some research on pornography - I think it made the already slightly hormonal atmosphere even more hormonal!!

We got together about 2 weeks later and now 5 and a half years later have had a beautiful relationship that has taken us from London to Amsterdam and now to Brighton - we had a rough time last xmas when we split for a few months - I guess everyone hits a tough patch at some point - but have got things back on track when it truth the odds have been dead against us.

I wish I could say it was all roses - when we split last year she got back together with her ex which I only found out about a few months ago - I guess I have forgiven but I am finding it harder to forget. That aside she has been the most special person in my life - and I guess all relationships hit a stumbling block at some point.

So thats my little tale....so far. Smile

I think that is one of the best parts of a relationship, any kind of relationship, is that it continues to grow and change and you never have any idea where it is going to take you. Cool, right on.

I'm also just a sucker for stories about how people met. The stories themselves seem to be just as different and varied as the couples themselves.

I can just imagine you two meeting for the first time and thinking "Ok, she needs to research pornography...is this a dream?!" Laughing

Thank you for indulging me and sharing your story! Very Happy Happy holidays to you and Lizzie!!!

It was waaaaay back in the 80's, but a mutual friend brought (prim and proper) Leanne and (street smart punk) me together. We both worked at the same company. The friend used the ol' "she thinks you're cute", "he thinks you're hot" ruse to get us on a date. Despite being total opposites, things just clicked and twenty plus years later our relationship and dedication to each other is as strong (if not stronger) as it was when we married.

Very Happy

So, like the Osmond's, she was a little bit country and you were a little bit rock-n-roll? Smile I think that is the way it should be! I strong believe in the 'opposites' theory. As long as your basic morals and outlook on life are similar, you have to mix it up in the other categories. Gideon was definitely the 'bad boy' when we met and I was the straight and narrow State Employee of the year. Rolling Eyes

I can only hope that ten - fifteen years from now Gideon and I will be as happy as you two are!

It was at a poetry open mic. My girlfriend read a poem of hers and then at some point after that I got up and read one of mine, and then later she told me that she liked it and gave me a piece of paper with her phone number on it, saying that I should call her sometime. That same night we went out to get something to eat at a diner, and didn't leave each other's sight for the next 3 days. (This includes having slept in her car together.) We too were pretty much "together" from that point on. To this day, we are like giggly five year olds together. It's been four years.

Isn't that just the best?! Very Happy
We still crack each other up, constantly laughing at our personal jokes and getting each other's humor. I love it! Cool, right on.

And yes Kylo, I remember. Wink In fact, it came up in conversation just over the weekend. We sure do miss you and hope we can see you soon. I would love for you to be able to meet the newest Gideon when he makes he big appearance in April. But we would love to see you before that, too.

Ah, love....

Halloween party 1982. She a sexy/innocent cheerleader; I my D&D character at the time, a chaotic good cleric named Bap Smile

Is there any such thing as a 'sexy/innocent' cheerleader? Rah!! hmmm... huh?

I would LOVE to see photos from that night of the two of you in your costumes! Cool, right on. I think Halloween is an excellent time to meet your mate.

I believe it was Halloween of '89 that I dressed up as my favorite D&D character: a chaotic neutral drou elf fighter named Avendell Greenleaf. No photos from that night, either. Neutral

I think my friend Mick has a black & white 8X10 of a bunch of us earlier in the night. Cheerleader Faith didn't show up at that party til after 1:00am. If he can find that pic I'll post it. Smile

Please do! Cool, right on.

I had just dropped out of Juilliard and was a bitter ex-composer now abstract painter stuffing envelopes for $4.00 an hour on West 57th Street for The Society for the Right to Die, a euthanasia educational organization. Saw the job on the Juilliard job board before I left. There I met a poet who was going to Columbia who went to high school in Rome with her. He set up a party to introduce us. She came wearing 5 dresses - had no luggage, easier to wear everything at once. We immediately started arguing about Jackson Pollock and kept arguing through the night.

When the party started winding down, she was going to sleep in the dude's bathtub and I had a talk with him. 'Make up some excuse so that she can't do that and will HAVE to come back home with me.' It worked and I think she was scared... spent the night in my tiny bed - with her 5 dresses on and talked all night. In the morning we went to Bagel Nosh and she disappeared. Didn't hear from her and she wouldn't return my phone calls for a month! Finally I talked her into going for a beer and we had a few and that was that... Within 2 months we left NYC for New Orleans and warmer climes. We arrived on a Greyhound broke with just our knapsacks and sat next to a tree where we found an unopened bottle of Mateus. It was Mardi Gras night! By morning I'd made a few phone calls and we had a place to stay until I could scrounge up some $$. That was all in early 1980.

Yesterday was our one year anniversary of moving to Sanibel Island! Thanks for asking Lou!

Congratulations! I'm sure you never regret making the transition...it seems so beautiful and tranquil there. Cool, right on.

And of course you two would have a whopper of a story, I would expect nothing less! I can just imagine Elsie with her 5 dresses on! Awesome! You two are such an amazing couple. Thank you for sharing your story with us. Very Happy

I met my wife about 9 years ago at work-Jeff Harrington worked there too (hi to you and Elsie)... seems like it was yesterday. We got married 3 years ago. Everything is easy as cake so far, despite my bad habits.

Well earshot, some bad habits just make things a little more interesting. I guess it depends. Wink
Nine years says a lot, though. That's pretty cool. Did someone introduce you at work or did you just run into each other?

And did you notice that today is the four year anniversary of when you joined the site? Congratulations all around! Cool, right on.

She worked in a building uptown around Times Square... I'd see her now and again and was introduced by someone. The company moved everyone under the same roof and we became cigarette buddies. We quit smoking.
I didn't even notice the anniversary of my account! I'm celebrating with a new sig.
oh yeah!
