another weekend, another day in the yard

For the last 3 weekends, Lou and I have been in the yard from morning to evening working on planting new plants, trees, some grass, and general clean up.
Finally, now on the 3rd week, my hands have toughened up so they are covered in blisters. Last weekend, one hand had 6 blisters and the other 4.
We'll take some photos of the yard and post them.
Today, I'm digging out part of a slope to add steps in. It's enough room for 4 steps. Without them, you tend to 'surf' down the slope. Hopefully the steps will work without cement, as I'm only using rocks and sand below the bricks and packing it in with soil. Each brick is the size of 4 standard red bricks stuck together.
My family always finds it funny that I like working in the yard. As a kid, I hated it. I recall thinking my parents had me because they needed someone to pull the weeds.
I know Doof enjoys working in the yard and garden, anyone else?
ok - break over - back to the bricks!

I'm always scared when a frog suddenly jumps out of the weed.. I don't like it so much. But needs to be done.

Yes, sometimes I do, but my wife and I haven't got a big garden...so the work is kept to a minimum...
And we don't like gardens which are too nice and clean, so that's a good excuse to let the weed where it is....

I LOVE it when a frog jumps out of the weeds at me...in fact, I try and catch them and kiss them.
We also like the 'natural' look in the yard...nothing too neat or sculpted. In fact, what we really enjoy doing is just watering the property and seeing what Mother Nature decides to plant in our yard for us.
What really excites me is all of the wildlife that is now attracted to our yard. The biggest surprise recently was a lovely 'blue-tailed skink' I found in the garden. A few weeks before that it was a California King snake!
We'll post some pictures soon....right Honey?

No more yardwork for me 'til spring.
We go for the "natural" look here. I mean, we've planted a few things (only stuff native to the area) but the rest is just let nature do its thang. We like the overgrown look. I know it pisses off the neighbours but I don't give a rats ass. They all have these perfectly manicured yards and gardens and then you have our place that looks like the Munsters live there.
And all we have here for wildlife are skunks and rabbits. The skunks stink the neighbourhood up and the rabbits get caught and eatin' by the big ol' tomcat that lives up the street.

When my dad had me work in the yard I hated it... but when i get my own place I'm pretty sure I'll enjoy it.
