[Sticky] ArtistServer.com shutting down end of August
Created on: 08/06/14 10:22 AM Replies: 6

Greetings,

I am very sorry to have to announce that ArtistServer will be shutting down at the end of this month due to no longer generating enough revenue to cover hosting costs.

I hope you had a good time, and thank you for supporting ArtistServer and all the creative people who filled this site with their music.

Paying members, I'll reach out and supply you with a refund.

Regards, Gideon - ArtistServer Owner/Admin

Well that sucks. You made a hell of a run at it man. I guess I'll have to move on somewhere else. Any recommendations? Something similar to this site?

Very sorry to hear this Gideon. You've certainly made a huge mark on the internet for music. I sincerely appreciate all the hard work and sacrifice you've put into the site over the years and I can imagine it must be hard to let go. May you enjoy and find a new positive focus for the time, energy and financing you've put into it. I wish you all the best. Thank you

Thanks for everything Gideon.

This may be the end (hopefully not there was a miracle last minute save last time--sadly this one feels to be final), but Gideon has created something that truly lived up to it's name: "Artist Server" this site more than any before it or any since it's inception has never failed to keep the Artist first. It never has bent to commercialism or to exploit the artist here.... it has only "served" them in every way--both in internet distribution and ability to serve has a media focal point for said Artists. Consequently, there has been a gathering here over the decade plus life of this site of some of the finest "true" talent in music today. I have been honored to be a part of this gathering. Wintermut3 would not be what it is today without this community that Gideon built. Gideon built something that was an initial creative rival to mp3.com when that site has decayed into greed and corruption by "the industry" and this site has long outlived the death of mp3.com--sure mp3.com is still there now, but only in name. Again no matter the hardship, this site never gave into that corruption. So thank you Gideon and family for giving a great and respectable place for Wintermut3 to grow, I was and still glad to call this site the "Flagship" of Wintermut3 music... it's home....

You nailed it. What will it take to keep the site going? Is there anything we as a community can do? Gideon, let us know.

Well done Gideon for getting this far. Unfortunately when a venture such as this is a "one man band", when that one man has has enough then I'm afraid it is all over. Good wishes and thanks don't pay the bills. Sadly it's why the corporate model will always win.

And Gideon - look on the bright side - you won't have to endure Hyperdriver any more Wink
